Be A Cheapskate Now, as the title indicates, is all about squeezing your pennies until they scream in agony. Since I am a penny pincher, this e-book title appealed to me right away and I just had to have it. I spend an hour perusing this book, and I have to admit that it was time well spent and it even made me laugh at times. Much of the content is common knowledge to me since I am a self-proclaimed expert cheapskate. However, I can see that these may be things that others have never thought about doing. I would like to note that a few of the ideas were just off the wall, which is the reason I am giving this book three stars. The book is set up well, because you can click on the chapter you want to view and it takes you right to it.** I received the Be A Cheapskate Now e-book at no charge in order to read it and provide some honest feedback about it. Over the last 5 years or so, I have become increasingly aware of the fact that we WAY overspend for so many things in our lives. I have started using coupons, submitting rebates, shopping sales, planning my weekly dinner menu around grocery sales, etc. In all, I have managed to cut down quite extensively on my expenses. When I saw this book, I was very excited to get some new ideas!
I read the edition of the book in roughly 30 minutes. It is a very simple read, mostly in list form. The first glaring thing is that there are multiple grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors in this book - to the point that it seems the author simply blogged one night, possibly even using talk-to-text technology, then never proofread the text before making it available on .
Discussing the content, the suggestions range from reasonable (rebate apps, learning to do your own manicures, etc) to a far reach (wearing only one color, using your bath water to bath the whole family or wash your dishes with?) to borderline illegal (dumpster diving, taking condiments/napkins/straws from restaurants - implying more than just what was provided for you meal). Overall, the great majority of suggestions were either basic and already well known or inappropriate.

I came across this for my and thought it would be an interesting read. All of us could use to save some money. This was a good book, but I do a lot of these things already. I did like the recommendations for some websites. I have already checked a few of those out. A lot are common sense things, but I guess we could all be reminded to do them. I already use and scour the web for coupons. They are a great way to save money. Some of the suggestions were repetitive, but overall some good ones. Some suggestions did seem a bit extreme to me like having the whole family use the same bath water, asking neighbors for food that they are going to throw out, and sneaking in soda to a restaurant. I guess if you are REALLY in need of saving money I guess these are OK, but I will skip those suggestions. I really did not like how unsanitary some of the suggestions got. I did come across some grammatical errors, but as long as you can get past it, it was OK. You could understand what the author was trying to say. I would recommend this book to anyone if they are new to saving money.

I am a frugal mom, always looking for good deals and ways to save money. I read this book, hoping to learn ways to help in that endeavor.
PROS
- The book does list some helpful tips and information, such as browser apps to give you promo code discounts, discount websites, etc.
- It covers a lot of different subjects with ways to save, from pets, to food and transportation.
CONS
- I got the feeling that the writer may have written this book to earn revenue from their affiliate links listed throughout. Planted in some of the 'tips' was one or two of these affiliate links or codes.
- Some of the information didn't have any explanation as to 'why' or how it helps you actually save. (example "Hulu TV streaming service")
- Some of the advice was a bit far-fetched. For example asking my neighbors for food they don't want "such as the butts of bread".
I'm 50 / 50 with this book, since there were some helpful tips I was able to take from it - but also some that I found to be common knowledge or a bit too out there for the average person.
Overall though, it's worth reading through while listed as free.
